Prior to the Covid crisis, I yearned for a slowing down of the world. I didn’t imagine it could actually happen; and then it did.

I don’t think it’s presumptive to believe that this experience, this great slowing-down, has taught us all some very valuable lessons and a new way to move forward in life. Unfortunately, no lesson is learned the easy way. The lessons we’ve learned have come with mass loss of life and devastation to many.

One example of this, likely as a result of social distancing, which has not been easy on most of us, is many people living more authentically, and less by the rules prescribed to them by society. We are so easily influenced by our peers, media, and social constructs, perhaps this time apart has given each of us a greater sense of self and a reconnection to our internal compass. Only good things come from living more authentically, so I hope this trend continues.

I do not want us to go back to the pre-Covid way of life. I do not want the deaths resulting from Covid-19 to have been in vain. Life as we knew it was not working. It did not work for the planet. It did not work for the underprivileged and our caregivers, and it did not work for any of us, really, because “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.”[1]

I ask of you, Dear Reader, what have you learned from this crisis, and in what ways will you take the New You forward in this new world?
